Libertarian Congressional candidate Mike Fellows killed in car crash
Michael Fellows, 59, Libertarian candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, died in a head-on automobile crash on Highway 200 last night. He was returning to Missoula from a campaign event in the Seeley-Swan area.
Preliminary reports on Fellows’ death are appearing in the Missoulian and other news media, and Greg Strandberg posted a friendly remembrance of the man who was Montana’s Mr. Libertarian.
I met Fellows once, just before the Flathead County Fair Parade started on 19 August. He was taping posters to his car. I introduced myself, and thanked him for always stopping his car momentarily when he saw me photographing him during parades. Not all candidates do that, but he did, knew when to do it, and how to do it without disrupting the flow of the parade.
He never had a chance of winning an election, but he enjoyed himself while raising issues and improved the image of his political party. He’ll be missed.
