Flathead Memo endorses Kathleen Williams for the U.S. House

Kathleen Williams is the Democratic nominee for Montana’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. On 6 November, I’ll vote for her. Compared to our current blessing in the U.S. House, Rep. Greg Gianforte, she’s a much better choice to represent the 99 Percent. Any Democrat would be a better choice.

Williams must now raise at least five million dollars. Within the Democratic Party and the community of progressives, she must repair the damage done by her ugly gender identity campaign. She must somehow convince independents and firearms aficionados that she’s not going to confiscate their hunting rifles and self-protection pistols. And she must overcome the perception that in Congress she’ll be an aisle crossing genuflector begging for policy scraps instead of a Paladin seeking wins for progressive causes.

Her odds of winning are low. Her refusal to agree that healthcare is a right, and her opposition to single-payer health healthcare, are terrible moral and political failures. But the stakes for 99 Percent are high. For ordinary people, she’s a far better choice than Gianforte. That’s why I endorse her and will vote for her.
