Trump could be the last man standing

The Democratic Party’s circular firing squad

As Bernie Sanders’ campaign gathered steam in the spring of 2016, stories arguing he was an zealot, the de facto second coming of George McGovern, perhaps even of Che Guevara, began appearing in the mainstream media and the political press. He wasn’t a real Democrat, the stories alleged, but he was a real socialist, perhaps even a closet Marxist-Leninist, an enemy of free enterprise and economic liberty, an enemy of capitalism and competition who would submerge the American Way of Life in the Deep State’s authoritarian abyss. If nominated, they promised, he would lose the election — but Hillary, the best qualified nominee in the history of humankind, would win.

Now the people who promised Hillary’s victory are at it again, generating reports that Sanders is still a Eurocentric socialist who would turn Delaware into Denmark, South Carolina into Sweden, Florida into Cuba, and, figuratively speaking, replace the Statue of Liberty with a giant bronze of Fidel Castro smoking a cigar while brandishing a Tommygun and smooching Stalin’s southern hemispheres.

Assisting Hillary’s sour grapes brigade, whose highest purpose in life is defeating Sanders even at the price of four more years of Trump, are the leaders of the Democratic Party’s circular firing squad: Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden, and from time-to-time, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg. They’re taking aim at Sanders, and at Elizabeth Warren, who, until she began running a gender identity campaign, was as effective as Sanders in denouncing the malefactors of great wealth. They’re blazing away at each other, spilling Democratic blood and generating sound bites that Commander Impeached, soon to become Commander Acquitted, will use against them in October.

The damn fools are turning the primary into a murder-suicide pact. They need to stop before Trump is the last man standing
