BC Coal Tenure Map

This imap of mineral claims and coal licenses in the British Columbian North Fork, dated 31 January 1998, was kindly provided by Dave Grieve of the mines department in Cranbrook. Ed Madej, of Helena, translated the PC file to a Mac compatible format.

The coal licenses in the vicinity of Harvey Creek now are plotted. Fording holds the Lodgepole, Harvey, and all but two of the Lilyburt blocks. Sage Creek Coal LTD holds the Cabin Creek licenses. This is a preliminary rasterization that will be updated fairly soon. Click on the map for a larger (110K) version. Below, you'll find a better map.

The upper basin of the North Fork Flathead lies in British Columbia. This is an updated version of a map published by the International Joint Commission in 1987. Onto it I've overlaid the official B.C. coal tenure map dated 31 January 1998. Fording's recent activity occurred on its Lodgepole blocks. Fording also holds licenses in the Harvey Creek area, and all but two of the licenses in the Lilyburt blocks.

Also new, the location of test gas wells from a 1987 map, and the proposed park. Click on the map for a 1500-pixel-wide version (297K).

PDF (248K) Grayscale version for printing out (the file is optimized for printing and will not look good on screen). Also contains stories on Fording's current activities. Use your browser's "Save Link As" function and save as "Source."

The planned layout of the proposed Cabin Creek mine, which had received Stage II (approval-in-principal) by the time this map was prepared for the IJC's Flathead River Study Board in late 1986. Note the mine's proximity to the Flathead River and Cabin and Howell Creeks. Click on the map for a larger (220K) view.
